Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery
The Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to identify and map Azure Recovery Services Vault resources within their cloud environment. This functionality is part of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, which requires the latest version to ensure comprehensive detection of Azure services.

This discovery process supports both commercial Azure regions and Azure GovCloud (US), with specific configuration needs for GovCloud accounts using datacenter URLs during Azure service account setup.
Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern is disabled by default. Activation is straightforward and does not count as a customization, ensuring patterns receive automatic updates after upgrades while retaining configurations.
- Data Population: Discovered data is stored in both Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and non-CMDB tables, providing detailed insights into Azure Recovery Services Vault resources.
- Non-CMDB Data: Running the “Azure - Recovery Services Vault - Extended Inventory (LP)” pattern populates Azure-specific non-CMDB tables. These tables include resource details such as object ID, kind, location, resource group, subscription ID, tenant ID, and provisioning state.
- CMDB Data: The same pattern also populates the CMDB's Cloud Resource table, capturing essential attributes like object ID, resource name, location, install and operational status, and resource type (microsoft.recoveryservices/vaults).
- CI Relationships: The pattern establishes relationships between discovered configuration items (CIs), linking Recovery Services Vault resources to their corresponding resource groups, cloud resources, and Azure datacenters. This supports comprehensive mapping and impact analysis.
- Tag Discovery: Azure tags associated with the Recovery Services Vault resources are collected and stored in the Key Value table, allowing for better categorization and filtering of resources based on tagging.
Practical Considerations for ServiceNow Customers
- Ensure all Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites are met before enabling this pattern, including proper Azure service account setup.
- Activate the Recovery Services Vault pattern via the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application to begin discovering these resources.
- Configure discovery schedules appropriately, especially when working with Azure GovCloud environments, to ensure successful data collection.
- Leverage the populated CMDB and non-CMDB tables for accurate asset management, compliance tracking, and operational insights of Azure Recovery Services Vaults.
- Use the established CI relationships and tag data to enhance service mapping, change impact analysis, and reporting capabilities.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Azure services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in Microsoft Azure Cloud components discovery using patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering Azure GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an Azure service account. For more information, see Set up Azure service accounts.

Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Azure - Recovery Services Vault - Extended Inventory(LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB Azure tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Object Id [object_id] | The unique resource identifier for the Azure resource. |
| Kind [kind] | The resource kind, indicating its specific variant or implementation. |
| DC Location [location] | The Azure region where the resource is deployed. |
| Resource Group [resource_group] | The name of the resource group containing the resource. |
| Subscription Id [subscription_id] | The Azure subscription ID under which the resource exists. |
| Tenant Id [tenant_id] | The Azure Active Directory tenant ID associated with the resource. |
| Provisioning State [provisioning_state] | The current provisioning state of the resource. For example: Succeeded, Failed, or Updating. |
| Configuration Item [configuration_item] | References the Cloud Resource [cmdb_ci_cmp_resource] table. |
Data stored in CMDB tables
