The Value builder in the Software Asset Management (SAM) application helpssamuserrole users identify and prioritize functionalities that are not yet implemented or underutilized. It enables you to assess how close your instance is to maximizing SAM capabilities by tracking and managing Value builder tasks, which can be automatically generated or manually created. The dashboard supports filtering by domain and category to focus on relevant data and allows you to mark important tasks as favorites for better visibility. You can view up to 15 tasks at a time, with an option to see all tasks.

Use Case
Value builder provides four donut chart widgets that visually indicate how fully your instance uses key SAM capabilities. For example, it highlights unused publisher packs by automatically creating tasks for them. Tasks can be prioritized or dismissed as needed, helping you systematically improve your SAM usage.
Value builder Widgets and Their Purpose
- SAM apps and plugins: Shows all SAM plugins and store applications available versus installed. Tracks completeness of installations.
- Publisher pack utilization: Displays publisher packs available and their usage status. A pack is complete only if three criteria (Plugin enabled?, Usage found?, Entitlements created?) are all true. Incomplete packs automatically generate Value builder tasks.
- Usage under management: Reflects usage of licensable products based on criteria (Usage found? and Entitlement created?). Usage found? requires detection of certain entities such as Discovery model or Client access record.
- Value builder tasks by status: Lists tasks by their current state (New, In progress, Pending review, Closed complete), excluding those marked Closed Skipped.
Task Management Features
- Tasks can be filtered by status, including those in progress or marked as favorites.
- Mark tasks as favorites to prioritize and track important improvements.
- Dismiss tasks that are not relevant to your current priorities.
- Access Success Guides through specific Value builder tasks designed to enhance your SAM knowledge.
- Preview upcoming features with New Updates tasks to stay informed about future releases.
Operational Details
Value builder data and tasks are refreshed following scheduled jobs named SAM- Update value builder usage and SAM- Value builder content handler. Selecting sections of the donut charts takes you to detailed record lists, allowing deeper investigation and action.

Overview of the Value builder
The sam_user role can identify and prioritize functionalities that haven't yet been implemented or aren't being used.
- Learn how close your instance is to maximizing the value of your Software Asset Management application.
- Track Value builder tasks that are automatically generated when publisher packs aren't fully used and are identified as incomplete. You can also manually create Value builder tasks. For details see Create a Value builder task.
- Filter the data by domain or category or you can filter by both domain and category. The filter applies to the entire dashboard, and when selected, displays only the data that matches the specific filter.
- Prioritize or increase visibility of certain tasks by marking tasks as favorites.
- Stay up to date and get a glimpse of the new features available in the upcoming release.
You can view a maximum of 15 tasks in the Value builder section. To see additional tasks, click View all.
Use case for Value builder
The Value builder displays four donut chart widgets to the sam_user role. Each widget shows you how far your instance is from fully using the Software Asset Management capabilities.
For example, the Publisher pack utilization widget shows five publisher packs but only four are being used in your instance. A Value builder task automatically gets created for the additional publisher pack that is not being used and appears in the New Value builder tasks section. You can prioritize this task and click the star icon to add this task to your Favorites list. If you decide not to work on this task, you can click Dismiss to remove it from the New Value builder tasks section.
Value builder widgets
Select a donut chart widget to take you to the list view of records. For example, if you want to view the incomplete publisher pack records, select the incomplete part in the donut chart widget.
