Consolidated data for effective decision-making More effective and customized reports 90% Of processes now managed by SPM

Since its formation through a merger in 2022, TelevisaUnivision has established itself as the world’s leading Spanish-language media company and content producer. Located in Mexico and the US, its core media verticals include news, sports, and entertainment, and it has the world’s largest library of Spanish-language content.

TelevisaUnivision owns market-leading broadcast television channels such as Univision, Las Estrellas, Canal 5, and UniMas, as well as a portfolio of 38 cable television networks, including TUDN, Galavision, Distrito Comedia, and TL Novelas.

It also operates Mexico’s leading film studio, Videocine, and owns the largest Spanish-language audio platform in the US, broadcasting through 35 channels and the Uforia digital platform. To top it all, TelevisaUnivision also owns ViX, the world’s largest Spanish-language digital streaming platform.

The strong synergy between TelevisaUnivision’s content and media production assets, combined with extensive intellectual property, financial resources, and global reach, means the company is ideally positioned to meet ever-growing demand for entertainment from Spanish-speaking populations worldwide.

A company in permanent evolution

TelevisaUnivision was looking for a radical change. It needed a platform that would allow it to meet key requirements such as managing internal projects more effectively and efficiently. TelevisaUnivision was also looking for more transparency and efficiency in its internal management, and better traceability by assigning responsibility to the owners of each process.

Being such a large company, with project management involving multiple departments and stakeholders, it was essential to move to a platform that would meet the needs of all involved.

For TelevisaUnivision, these major changes represented a transformation in its teams’ mindsets; they also had to open themselves to the new possibilities that a solution such as ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) could offer.

The TelevisaUnivision and ServiceNow teams tested the platform. Instead of following a traditional implementation model, they used real-world examples. In this way, they were able to test the capabilities of SPM with information that was relevant to them. They began by realigning their processes and eliminating unneeded information before moving to the SPM solution.

“Moving to a platform with the capabilities that SPM gives us was a challenge,” adds Adriana Rodriguez, PMO Leader at TelevisaUnivision. “However, the biggest challenge was the change of habits in everyone involved.”

Encouraging inclusivity, availability, and clarity

Within just a few weeks of implementation, the benefits of SPM became clear. Project management was once hindered by poor access to key data; however, with improved availability of information and new deployment capabilities, SPM has created a more connected and collaborative work model. Project teams can now access vital information without having to wait for status meetings to access specific reports.

“Anyone working on a project, even if they are from another part of the business, can access information in real time,” says Adriana.

Another key benefit is online management for each project, regardless of size. The unified platform allows stakeholders to understand the status of any project at any time without having to wait for quarterly reviews. In addition, having a platform that helps them manage schedules like no other made all the difference. With SPM, the leap the team made was exponential, eliminating that gap to provide availability and management visibility at all times.

SPM’s ability to break down barriers to information and provide constant availability and management visibility has transformed project management at TelevisaUnivision. Its capabilities have also reaffirmed teams’ commitment to collaboration by facilitating interactions and involvements of different areas of project management, with key information available in just a few clicks.

And the benefits don’t stop there. SPM’s reporting capabilities also make an important contribution to project management, providing more information around the status of each project and key insights into management processes. This was identified as a crucial requirement during implementation and training.

“While implementing SPM, we defined certain types of report. ServiceNow then taught us how to customize them and take them to another level. Why build only three reports if we can have as many as we need? I love that,” says Adriana.

Features such as the Business Case, Assessment Data, and Status Report also allow TelevisaUnivision to maximize team management capabilities, optimizing work-hour time by at least 40% across the organization.

Promoting efficiencies with more process integration

The decision to implement SPM has certainly paid off, and TelevisaUnivision now expects to get even more from the platform by integrating it into other parts of its organization. With clear objectives and an ever-evolving mindset, the team is now looking to implement SPM in financial project management, consolidating a range of areas into a single platform.

“We plan to integrate more information and more reports with a centralized dashboard to focus on project analysis and forecasting,” says Adriana.

“Many companies try to implement new processes without clear objectives for each solution from the outset. When we decided to change, we already knew where we wanted to go. Today, with the improvements enabled by SPM, everything is clearer.

“An important reason for this is the support we get from ServiceNow. Every time a question comes up or we need new functionalities, they are always available to assist.”
