Discovery Models form fields
- Display name: Auto-generated name combining discovered publisher, product, and version for easy identification in lists.
- Normalization status: Indicates the current normalization state of the discovery model, such as Normalized, Partially Normalized, Publisher Normalized, Match Not Found, or Manually Normalized. A caution icon appears if normalization suggestions exist, linking directly to those records.
- Publisher, Product, Version: Normalized values representing the standardized software publisher, product name, and product version.
- Discovered publisher, product, version: Raw values captured during discovery before normalization.
- Additional Information: Defines the Product type (e.g., Licensable, Not Licensable, Child, Driver, Patch, Unknown), Platform (Windows, macOS, UNIX), Language (includes common languages like English, French, German, with more generated as discovered), Edition, and Full version. Changing product type to a known category updates normalization status to Manually Normalized.
- Exclude from content service: Option to prevent the discovery model details from being transferred to the Software Asset Management Content Service. This field is visible only for custom products when the customer has opted into this service.
Software Installation related list fields
- Display name: Name of the installed software as shown in lists.
- Publisher: Name of the software's publisher.
- Version: Installed software version.
- Installed on: Identifier of the hardware device where the software is installed.
Practical implications for ServiceNow customers
Understanding and managing these fields enables customers to accurately track software assets discovered in their environment, normalize software data for consistent reporting, and streamline software reconciliation processes. The normalization status and product type fields directly impact how software licenses are managed and reconciled, ensuring compliance and accurate asset tracking. The ability to exclude certain discovery models from the Content Service allows customers to control data sharing for custom products.
