    Summary of Audit results

The Audit results feature in ServiceNow provides a detailed status report of assets after conducting scheduled or blind audits in stockrooms or other locations. It compares physical asset scans against asset records in the ServiceNow instance to identify discrepancies and update asset statuses accordingly. This helps ensure asset accuracy and integrity within your Hardware Asset Management (HAM) processes.

Audit results are generated from different tables depending on the configuration of the snhamp.migratehamaudit system property and whether audit enhancements are enabled.

    Audit Results Details

The audit results categorize assets into key statuses:

    • Scanned and expected: Assets scanned that match expected inventory at the location.
    • Scanned and not expected: Assets scanned but not expected at that location, yet present in ServiceNow records.
    • Expected and not found: Assets expected but not scanned during the audit.
    • New: Assets scanned that do not have existing records, triggering creation of new asset records with "Unknown" model and category.
    • Excluded from HAM: Assets scanned but excluded from Hardware Asset Management, so audit fields are not updated for these.

Related asset lists include Expected Assets, Scanned Assets, and Excluded Assets, helping you view and manage audited assets effectively.

Enhanced Audit Results (When Audit Enhancements are Enabled)

With audit enhancements enabled (snhamp.migratehamaudit=true), audit results come from the Asset Audits [snitamcommonassetaudit] table and provide additional categorizations:

    • Expected: Expected assets that were scanned.
    • Not expected and location corrected: Assets scanned but not expected, with corrected location info.
    • Missing: Expected assets that were not scanned.
    • New: Newly scanned assets without existing records, which create new asset entries and asset remediation tasks to update model information.
    • Excluded from licensing: Assets excluded from licensing either due to Enterprise Asset Management license absence or opted-out HAM Resource Categories.
    • Found but not in audit scope: Assets scanned outside the defined audit scope but still belonging to the broader location.

    Practical Application for ServiceNow Customers

Using Audit results enables you to maintain accurate asset inventories by identifying missing, unexpected, or new assets during audits. The system automatically creates asset records for unidentified assets and generates remediation tasks to update missing details. This streamlines asset compliance and management efforts within your ServiceNow instance.

By understanding the audit categories and related lists, you can quickly analyze audit outcomes, identify discrepancies, and take corrective action. The feature supports both basic and enhanced audit workflows depending on your configuration, allowing flexibility in how audit data is processed and reported.

The Audit results shows the status of the assets when the scheduled or blind audits of asset stockrooms and other locations is complete.

The audit results are generated by comparing the assets scanned at the physical location or stockroom and the asset records present in the ServiceNow instance.
    Important:
If the sn_hamp.migrate_hamaudit system property is set to false and you haven’t enabled audit enhancements in your ServiceNow instance, the audit results are populated from the Asset Audits [sn_hamp_asset_audit] table.
    Table 1. Audit Results
    Field Description
Scanned and expected Number of assets scanned in the audit that are expected to be present at the location or stockroom.
Scanned and not expected Number of assets scanned in the audit that are not expected to be present at the location or stockroom. These asset records are present in the ServiceNow instance.
Expected and not found Number of assets that are expected to be present at the location or stockroom but not scanned as part of the audit.
New Number of asset records that were missing from the ServiceNow instance when the assets were scanned. In such cases, a new asset record is created with the model category set as Unknown model category and the model set as Unknown model.
Excluded from HAM Number of assets scanned as part of the audit process that are excluded from Hardware Asset Management features. For these assets, audit fields aren't updated.
The following related lists show asset information:
    • Expected Assets: Shows a list of all assets that are part of the stockroom or location that is being audited. This list gets populated when you scan an asset for the first time in the audit.
    • Scanned Assets: Shows a list of all assets that are scanned during the audit. The list is updated each time scans are submitted from the ServiceNow Agent app.
    • Excluded Assets: Shows a list of all assets scanned as part of the audit which are excluded from Hardware Asset Management.
    Important:
If you have set the sn_hamp.migrate_hamaudit system property value to true to enable audit enhancements in your ServiceNow instance, the audit results are populated from the Asset Audits [sn_itam_common_asset_audit] table.
    Table 2. Asset audit result
    Description Description
Expected Number of expected assets that were scanned.
Not expected and location corrected Number of assets that were scanned but weren’t expected.
Missing Number of expected assets that weren’t scanned.
New Number of assets that were scanned but don’t have a record in your ServiceNow instance.
    Note:
If the audit record's Scan method is set to Multi scan, a new asset record is created using the provided Asset tag. The new asset record is created with unknown product model and unknown model category value. Additionally, an asset remediation task is also created to notify you that an asset record is created with unknown model category and unknown product model. Open the asset remediation task from the Hardware Asset Workspace and update the Model category and Model fields value for the asset. For more information, see Close an asset remediation task.
Excluded from licensing Number of scanned assets that are excluded from licensing. A value is shown in this field when you scan an asset that meets one of the following conditions:
    • When you scanned an enterprise asset that is considered as an excluded from licensing asset, if your ServiceNow® instance doesn't have an Enterprise Asset Management license.
    • When you have opted out of any HAM Resource Categories, then any asset you scan that belongs to those Resource Categories is considered as an asset excluded from licensing.
Found but not in audit scope The number of scanned assets that are not within the scope of the current audit record. For example, if the audit is created to scan assets located in Aisle and Space 001 of the stockroom, but an asset belonging to Aisle and Space 002 in the stockroom is scanned, that asset cannot be categorized as an unexpected asset for the stockroom. Since the asset is still an expected asset for the stockroom, it is categorized as found but not in audit scope asset.
