When people are passionate about what they do, their energy is contagious. Sri R., senior digital automation engineer at ServiceNow, is one of those people. His fascination with and fervor for the company, the day-to-day work he gets to do, and the citizen developer resources available to him are evident in conversations with his co-workers and even extend to his personal life.

ServiceNow empowers Sri to do his best work by giving him the tools, resources, and flexibility he needs—and pathways to broaden his capabilities and fulfill his dreams.

Streamlining processes

As part of the sales user acceptance testing (UAT) team—the last line of defense to certify products before they go to our sales teams—Sri is tasked with digitizing manual processes and tasks to streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and save the company time and money.

He taught himself how to build apps on the Now Platform. Sri developed automation to replace the manual task of logging in to five different systems to create data for UAT, which is an important step in the rollout of any new feature.

Recently, the automation he built was used to create around 300 records within the test product in 240 hours, a task that normally would have taken more than 500 hours manually. With the testing phase completed more quickly, the team can focus on other tasks.

In another instance, Sri implemented automation that validated tens of thousands of sales territory records for accuracy over a period of four days—a task that would have been impossible to perform manually.

Evangelizing automation

As impressive as the time savings is, Sri took it one step further, using the ServiceNow App Engine Studio low-code tool to create an app that calculates the cost saved as a result of the automation. “The value that we got from the app was unbelievable,” he says.

Once Sri explored the Now Platform, he knew developing an app on it rather than maintaining data on multiple Excel sheets was a no-brainer. Today, he’s an extremely passionate citizen developer who encourages others to be creative and innovative.

“If I can build an app, so can you,” he says, noting that app creation was never on his radar. “There’s no better day than today to start using the low-code, no-code features and start developing apps.”

Earning recognition

Sri’s hard work and ingenuity earned him one of the first GO Awards. These global operations awards recognize employees for exceptional work that aligns with three key priorities:

  1. Think and act with a customer-first mindset

  2. Use the power of the Now Platform

  3. Live our culture and drive operational agility

He also won an ICON Award, which recognizes individuals exhibiting outstanding service through leadership, work relationships, and excellent work performance. “When I got this award, I had a sense of pride,” Sri says. “I felt that my work was purposeful. It feels amazing to have something that I created being used by other employees at ServiceNow.”

Spreading the word

Outside of work, Sri is a self-professed ServiceNow swag fanatic who’s proud to represent the company wherever he goes.

“I can guarantee that I have almost every single product that is available at the company store,” he explains. “All the different kinds of T-shirts, lunchboxes, the totes, the water bottle—you name it, I’m definitely going to have it.” His daughter has caught on and asks Sri for T-shirts in her size.

Sri truly embodies the spirit of ServiceNow by solving business needs, improving collaboration between internal stakeholders, and digitizing processes across the digital innovation and transformation department.
