Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 is set aside as Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures and extensive heritages of Latin Americans. At ServiceNow, our Unidos at ServiceNow employee belonging group honors and provides space for these communities and their friends and allies year-round.
This year’s national theme is “Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America.” Three ServiceNow employees embody these characteristics. Hear their stories as they share the symbolism behind their favorite artifacts.
Amanda C., program manager of global well-being and communications, treasures a necklace she received from her grandma. “It was something that she felt was building some progress for us as young women,” Amanda says, referring to her and her sister.
The necklace wasn’t something Amanda’s grandma would have been able to afford when she was younger. “When she had it, she felt that she was regal and important and beautiful,” Amanda adds, “and that’s how I felt when I wore it on my wedding day.”
Jeffrey V., customer success manager, prizes an elegant sombrero from the northern region of Colombia, where his parents are from. “I think the intricate design, the work that goes into it, and the final outcome signify the progress Latinos have made throughout American history,” he says.
“For me, this signifies the struggle my parents had when they came to this country 35-plus years ago to provide for their children. For me being the first to graduate undergrad and then with a graduate degree, this is their dream that I’m living.”
Katy R., sales development representative, proudly displays a dollhouse made from Legos and themed after the popular Disney movie “Encanto.” Like the family in “Encanto,” Katy is from Colombia and continually finds ways to overcome challenges and grow.
“I remember when I joined ServiceNow,” Katy reflects. “I heard [our CEO] Bill McDermont say ‘dream even bigger.’ That phrase became my mantra because sometimes I feel afraid to dream. This house is my daily reminder to dream even bigger,” she says.
Throughout the year, and especially during Hispanic Heritage Month, Unidos at ServiceNow hosts companywide events to honor and celebrate these cultures and heritages that contribute so much to the world. The group also provides a sense of community to its members.
“Unidos represents my family here at ServiceNow,” Katy says. “I’m so grateful for all of the members who are helping me, mentoring me, and coaching me to advance my career here at ServiceNow.”
