Meet Debbie: Helping others succeed with a can-do attitude

Do your best work: Debbie S. helping others succeed by sharing her story in front of an audience

As a girl, Debbie S. had a dream to get into the police force. Upon graduating college, she studied for the exam and applied, not letting the fact that she didn’t quite meet the height requirement deter her. In fact, she applied 60 times to multiple forces. “My family always says I was the most positive person they knew, and that never wanes with me,” she says.

When it became abundantly clear there was no path forward for Debbie in that field, she pivoted to tech. “I think you have to try to do what you want to do, but then if you reach a point where you can't do it, ask yourself, what are you going to do next? Look around for other opportunities to develop a new dream.”

Today, Debbie is doing her best work and helping others succeed as a global enablement specialist at ServiceNow. She’s found success in translating many of the skills and interests she would have deployed in the criminal justice field to her current role.

Collaborating for success

“The work I do now is about trying to understand some of the complex processes, the requirements to actually get to a customer outcome,” she explains. “So, it’s a different kind of puzzle.”

Debbie has significantly contributed to increasing the readiness of some of ServiceNow’s top partners to sell, solve, and deliver for our customers. She does this through training plan development, needs assessments, capacity and talent planning, expertise development, relationship management, scaling methods design, and success metrics.

Debbie’s ongoing collaboration with ServiceNow partner Fujitsu continues to be one of her most rewarding projects. She works with the company to foster new ways to grow its talent base who are using the ServiceNow platform. With Debbie’s support, the company has significantly increased the number of employees using our platform.

“My dream big moment is to see Fujitsu achieve its goal of being in our top six partners,” Debbie says, referencing a longstanding mantra at ServiceNow to dream big.

The power of a caring team

ServiceNow has given Debbie opportunities to grow her career while maintaining balance in her life. When her mother passed away, Debbie’s team was especially supportive.

“They were constantly asking what they could take off of my plate so I could concentrate on my personal life,” she says. “To me, that was about real trust. It brought us so much closer together. I will be forever grateful for that.”

Balance isn’t only about challenging times. It’s also about being able to thrive as a well-rounded person. Outside of work, Debbie enjoys playing the guitar and staying physically active. She has a black belt in martial arts and regularly plays a variety of sports.

“I’m a lifelong learner, and there are opportunities every single day to learn things at ServiceNow,” she says. “If I want to create something new and try it out, nobody ever says no, as long as it's a calculated risk. I love the opportunity to be creative,” she says.
