Meet Evan, who moved cross-country for a ServiceNow career start

Career start: ServiceNow employee Evan V. in Texas and California

In the summer of his junior year at Texas A&M University, Evan V. was browsing LinkedIn for co-op positions when he came across a job posting by ServiceNow. At the time, he had no idea what ServiceNow did.

After some research to better understand the company, Evan applied, scored an interview, and landed the co-op position on the talent brand team.

California dreamin’

The company flew Evan to California, a place he’d never been, for a team event. He and the team explored some of the Bay Area and visited the ServiceNow headquarters. The experience got him thinking about a possible move to California after graduation.

Evan’s hard work as a co-op paid off, and he got an offer to join ServiceNow as a full-time marketing associate, which sealed the deal for a move to California.

“I thought, Wow! This is real,” he says. “I’m going to be leaving Texas, the place that I lived my whole life. And then I just started thinking, What can I even fit in my car?”

Life is a highway

Telling family and friends about his decision to move for a ServiceNow career start wasn’t easy. “It was definitely a bittersweet reaction,” Evan says. “There was a hint of sadness there, but overall, everyone was very happy and supportive.”

On June 28, Evan packed his Mazda CX-50 and hit the road to begin a new life and career at ServiceNow.

“Both my mom and dad wanted to come,” he says, “but the thing about fitting all your life's possessions into one car is there's very limited passenger space.” Only Evan’s dad joined him on the journey.

The most unforgettable part of the road trip was a stop in Las Vegas, where the two took a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon. “I definitely learned that helicopters make me really motion sick,” Evan says, “but it was still a great memory to have with my dad.”

Starting over

The two made it to the Bay Area and moved Evan into his new apartment. After a few trips to Ikea, Evan settled in for his first day of work, and his dad returned to Texas.

“The thing I love the most about ServiceNow,” Evan says, “is that everybody is very supportive of me. As someone who is just starting my career, that's really important because I feel like I made the right choice to come here, to learn, and to gain experience that will help me build the rest of my career.”

For other early-career employees considering moving for their careers, “it's important to be OK with leaving your comfort zone and getting a new perspective on things,” Evan encourages. “You shouldn't let fear hold you back.”

Evan is living his best life in California, experiencing the outdoors and hiking. Yosemite and Redwood national parks are on the top of his list to visit. “I just want to enjoy all the awesome California nature,” he says.
