Meet Deepika: Fulfilling big dreams with a unique career growth plan
When it comes to career growth, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Each journey is unique. Deepika V. exemplifies this truth with a career growth plan that has taken her to new heights and made some of her personal and professional dreams come true.
Today, Deepika is a digital acquisition strategist at ServiceNow, where she inspires her colleagues to keep learning and growing. "I always had a passion for making people's lives better,” she says, “and always felt that business-to-business tech was the perfect avenue to do that at scale.”
Creating a career growth plan
Deepika started her career at ServiceNow as a marketing operations contractor. “I was still trying to figure out what I really wanted to do,” she says. “ServiceNow was the perfect place to kick off that journey. When the company started its digital marketing team, we had a new leader. He was always asking me, ‘Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years?’”
Using the ServiceNow Employee Growth and Development tool, Deepika and her manager created a career path for her to progress from an operations role into a digital paid media role.
“I wanted to do more,” Deepika says. “I wanted to dive deep into the digital space and underneath the hood and understand how digital marketing interplays in driving our messaging to the market and to a larger audience,” she recalls.
Starting over in a new country
Deepika had a personal dream to live and work abroad. When an opportunity arose for her to relocate from the ServiceNow office in Australia to Singapore, she jumped at the chance.
After speaking with her manager and team, who were incredibly supportive, she also sought input from her family, especially her brother. “He's been such a rock throughout my whole life,” she explains. “He was the one who really encouraged me to go to Singapore and take this leap of faith.”
Adjusting to life in Singapore was both exciting and challenging. “There are a lot of little cultural differences in communication and business styles when you move to a new place,” she notes. “Over time, with immersion, it gets easier.”
Deepika found her new manager and team to be extremely supportive. “They took me under their wing, and I just started saying yes to everything, from happy hours to workout classes,” she says. “I became a walking billboard for ServiceNow.”
Shooting for the moon
Deepika isn’t slowing down anytime soon. She plans to continue growing her career at ServiceNow while completing her master's degree at the National University of Singapore.
“I feel this will give me the business understanding that I need to underscore the work that we're doing in digital marketing,” she says. For her next phase, she envisions “being a subject matter expert or evangelizing a particular area. Accelerating opportunities and customer retention has become a big focus,” she adds.
