International Women's Day: 2 ServiceNow women who inspire change

Every March, in honor of International Women’s Day, the world celebrates women from all walks of life who inspire change and contribute meaningfully to society. At ServiceNow, we’re proud to highlight two employees who embody this spirit, thanks to influential role models who paid it forward.

Taking the road less traveled

Melissa I., manager of global sales development, learned to believe in herself from her mother, Marilyn. Despite a privileged background with a life seemingly preplanned, Marilyn chose her own path and forged a career that included a key role in launching the Levi Strauss brand in Australia in the late 1960s.

That unconventional journey inspired Melissa and her sister, Chantelle, to challenge the status quo. "My mom always encouraged us to bring our best selves to anything we do,” Melissa says. “She taught us to never give up, especially when the road gets tough.”

Melissa and Chantelle aim to continue Marilyn’s legacy and pass down those values to their daughters.

Being the role model you want to see

Unlike Melissa, Rama V., director of solution consulting, who grew up in Kenya, didn’t have a strong role model in her family. Instead, she drew motivation from a female teacher who balanced family, career, and personal growth. “That inspired me,” Rama says.

No one like me where I grew up had [broken into tech] before. I realized I could be the one to break the barrier. -Rama V., Director, Solution Consulting

That awareness and recognition led Rama to shift her career trajectory from pharmacy to tech. "No one like me where I grew up had done it before," Rama says. "I realized I could be the one to break that barrier."

Over the past 15 years, Rama has volunteered with Learning to Work in the UK to be the mentor to young girls that she wished she’d had growing up. Today, she serves as a board trustee.

The value of giving back

Rama’s goal is to inspire others to embrace new challenges and make an impact in their communities. "I’ve seen the difference that we can all make in our workplace and in the students that I support,” she says. "My one ask to all is to find your purpose where you want to give back and try it out. You’ll feel a difference in yourself."
