Community engagement for a better world

Community engagement: ServiceNow employees engaged in volunteer efforts for Month of Service

Local actions can ripple out to create global results. That’s why as ServiceNow continues to grow its global impact—from philanthropic efforts to the launch of ServiceNow.org—the company also empowers employees to go into their communities and make a difference.

Each year, we designate October as our Month of Service. Thousands of ServiceNow employees from around the world participate in community engagement, including beach and waterway cleanups, fundraising walks and runs, and food sorting and preparation for those in need.

In October 2023, employees racked up more than 8,600 volunteer hours and raised nearly $1.7 million for charities while taking advantage of the 2-to-1 corporate giving match and double rewards that were offered for service.

Feeding others while filling our cups

Through our continued partnership with Rise Against Hunger, employees packed 214,000 meals for communities in need with events in Bangalore and Hyderabad, India; Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Orlando, Florida; San Diego and Santa Clara, California; and Staines, UK. These events are part human assembly line and part team building.

Shoeb S., senior staff technical program manager in Santa Clara, expressed “gratitude to our partners for giving us the opportunity to be with colleagues and bonding together to make a positive impact to end global hunger—just when the world needs us the most.”

Prioritizing well-being and mental health

World Mental Health Day falls neatly in the first half of our Month of Service. To honor it, ServiceNow partnered with Project Healthy Minds to encourage people to move their bodies and engage their minds in support of ending the stigma around mental health.

From a festival in Hudson Yards in New York City to virtual team sound baths and SoulCycle classes around the world, we raised awareness and funds to further Project Healthy Minds’ mission to confront the mental health crisis.

Uplifting pediatric cancer patients

As friendship bracelets filled the stands across Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, ServiceNow employees made and decorated more than 500 superhero capes and bracelets for pediatric patients for Ronald McDonald House Charities. These items help boost kids’ spirits while they undergo treatments.

“That time together as a team really warmed my heart and made me feel that we have a larger purpose in life,” says Shawntae A., executive assistant. “As a team, we can all lift each other up by putting a smile on a child’s face who needs it the most. A small yet fulfilling gesture by making these capes and bracelets, plus putting them on to take photos, made for some good memories in the workplace.”

Nurturing “bee trees”

Inspired by his daughter’s interest in beekeeping, Peter O., new logo account executive, became enamored with the practice. He now leads ServiceNow’s beekeeping efforts in Germany, where we collaborate with associations such as the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union—one of the country’s oldest and largest environment associations.

Nurturing our second “bee tree,” ServiceNow also partners with an organization called Bee Embassy. “We share their commitment to establishing additional natural nesting sites that align with our vision of providing bees a nature-oriented and species-appropriate habitat within Frankfurt Green City and its surroundings,” Peter explains. “It’s not just about the honey. We want the city and landscape to blossom again, and we’re contributing to an important part of biodiversity.”

Inspiring students to dream big

Mariuxi T., senior marketing specialist in the New York City office, helped organize a networking event for high school students to help them learn about their career options in tech—and maybe even at ServiceNow.

“My career path was squiggly,” she says. “It felt good to be able to tell the students that it’s OK to have an unconventional trajectory, like I did. I didn’t have these events when I was in high school, and networking for me is still a struggle. So I’m a strong supporter of these opportunities for students to practice those skills that are so pivotal to their careers.”

Building schools and community in Nepal

Charly F., senior solutions consultant, had good memories from his time as a scout when he was younger. When the scouts in Luxembourg reached out and asked him to help organize an event for the next generation, he welcomed the opportunity.

More than 40 scouts from Europe embarked on a trip to Pharping, Nepal, to help build a school. On the ground, the group worked on various activities, such as fitting doors and windows, constructing bathrooms, painting walls and railings, gardening, and fencing land. They also supported farmers in the field and cooked together with the locals.

“What I’ll always remember is the friendships we made and the appreciation the local community had for our time together,” Charly says. “This allows us, so to say, to build intercultural bridges using our minds and hearts.”
