Turbocharging the future for women in tech
I’m passionate about creating hands-on, meaningful opportunities for young women to reimagine the future of work.
At ServiceNow, we’re on a mission to make the world work better for everyone—including the next generation of women in tech. That’s because women make up just 28% of the global science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce, according to the World Economic Forum. And only 31% of core STEM university students in the UK are women, STEM Women reports.
In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, we partnered with two organizations to give three girls a very cool opportunity—a rare glimpse into a world where elite motorsports and digital innovation collide:
- Global children’s charity Plan International UK, which is striving for a world where every girl can choose her own future
- The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team
This incredibly immersive experience was designed to empower the next generation of women in tech to explore the future and connect with peers and mentors in one of the most advanced engineering environments in the world.
Time with the crew
The three young women spent the day at the Aston Martin Aramco racing team campus, an intriguing location that rarely opens its doors to outsiders. It was inspiring to see these talented community members’ facial expressions and responses in this high-performance, male-dominated environment.
There, each young woman shadowed a pioneering female staff member, networked with staff during lunch, and got to see a racing team in action. They observed the pace, complexity, and collaboration required to engineer success at this organization.
During a fireside chat, I joined other leaders to reflect on the state of women in engineering and to celebrate how access is the key that drives innovation.
“There aren’t many opportunities for girls from my background in Northern Ireland to come out and see how F1 teams work,” explained law student Rachel B. “It’s incredible for someone from my background to come out and see everyone.”
For the three young women, this experience was not just informative—it was transformative. They walked away with new connections, practical tips, and a sense of belonging in a space that can often feel out of reach.
“It’s been fantastic to be at Aston Martin today. I met some amazing women who are really leading the way in engineering and in other parts of the business too,” said Lucy C., who’s studying mechanical engineering. “It’s amazing to connect with these individuals and see what they’re up to—they’re real trailblazers in this field. It’s really inspirational as someone wanting to get into F1 as an engineer.”
Opening doors together
I’ve always known that ServiceNow and Aston Martin Aramco share common values. This event enabled us to translate words into action by making a direct impact in the lives of three young women. It was a celebration of women in engineering—and of what’s possible when we invest in the future.
“It’s been so inspiring to see how much women make up the [work]force in the Aston Martin F1 team,” said Lornah N., a product design engineering student. "It’s just leaving me so inspired—I cannot wait for more to come.”
People entering the workforce in the years ahead face a host of challenges, including fast-moving technology and widespread economic uncertainty. That’s why I’m proud to work for a company that strives to empower the next generation to lead digital transformation—and to ensure that transformation includes everyone.
