Exploring ServiceNow values: Create belonging
“True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are,” according to Brene Brown, an American professor and podcast host.
At ServiceNow, we embrace that mindset as part of our core values. One of those values, create belonging, means we encourage employees to bring their authentic selves to work every day, knowing they’ll be respected for who they are and their uniqueness.
That’s why we hold this value so dear, along with our others: win as a team, wow our customers, and stay hungry and humble. Regardless of differences in gender, skin color, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs, when individuals feel like they belong in the workplace, they have more opportunity to do their best work.
In our final installment of this values series, employees around the globe share their perspectives on what “create belonging” means to them and why it’s essential.
Cultivating connections
In mid-2020, when work rapidly shifted to fully remote, ServiceNow launched employee belonging groups:
- Asian and Pacific Islander at ServiceNow
- Black at ServiceNow
- Families at ServiceNow
- Interfaith at ServiceNow
- Pride at ServiceNow
- TruAbility at ServiceNow
- Unidos at ServiceNow
- Veterans at ServiceNow
- Women at ServiceNow
These groups continue to thrive, giving employees opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who share similar interests and backgrounds.
Enriching employee experiences
“It's easy to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion as a side project, but that's not what it is at ServiceNow,” says Rachel A., director of go-to-market programs and excellence. “It bleeds all the way through everything we do.”
When Marcel A., manager of solution consulting, started at ServiceNow more than eight years ago, he was one of a handful of Black employees in the UK and felt alone. Now, he’s “really happy at the direction and the trajectory we as a company have gone,” he says.
ServiceNow has created a culture in which individuals feel seen and heard and have a seat at the table to share their ideas and experiences. That sense of belonging has led to us being named among:
- Glassdoor Best Places to Work
- Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion
- Best Workplaces for Parents
- Fortune Best Workplaces for Women ;
- Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For
- Human Rights Campaign Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality
“The supportive culture and caring environment at ServiceNow provide me with the motivation and recognition needed to do my best,” says Yogesh D., a senior software engineer in India.
