AWS Batch Compute Environment pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of AWS Batch Compute Environment pattern-based discovery
The AWS Batch Compute Environment pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to discover and map AWS Batch Compute Environments in their cloud infrastructure using Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns. This process populates configuration data into both CMDB and non-CMDB tables for comprehensive visibility and management of AWS Batch resources.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The AWS Batch Compute Environment pattern is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, enabling or disabling patterns is streamlined and retains the latest updates without being treated as a customization.
- Prerequisites and Setup: Customers must verify AWS discovery prerequisites, remove relevant resources from the Resource Inclusion List to prevent duplicate discoveries, and configure discovery schedules properly, especially for AWS GovCloud (US) environments which require specific datacenter URLs.
- Data Population: The discovery pattern populates data into:
- Non-CMDB tables: Using the "Amazon AWS - Batch Compute Environment - Extended Inventory (LP)" pattern, data is stored in tables accessible under Configuration > AWS.
- CMDB tables: Key AWS Batch Compute Environment details are stored in the Cloud App Server [cmdbcicloudappserver] table, including identification by Amazon Resource Name (ARN), status, and resource type (AWS::Batch::ComputeEnvironment).
- CI Relationships: The pattern creates important relationships such as:
- Cloud App Server hosted on AWS Datacenter
- AWS Batch Compute Environment references Cloud App Server
- AWS Tag Discovery: Tags associated with AWS Batch Compute Environments are collected and stored in the Key Value [cmdbkeyvalue] table, facilitating better resource classification and management.
What to Expect
By enabling and configuring this pattern, ServiceNow customers can expect automated, accurate discovery and mapping of AWS Batch Compute Environments within their cloud landscape. This provides detailed asset information and relationships in the CMDB, enhancing visibility for cloud operations, governance, and compliance. Additionally, tag collection supports improved resource categorization and reporting.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds AWS services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in AWS discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see AWS Resource Inventory discovery with Patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.

Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Amazon AWS - Batch Compute Environment - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB AWS tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Object Id [object_id] | The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) uniquely identifying the compute environment. |
| Name [name] | The name of the compute environment. |
| Configuration Item [configuration_item] | References the Cloud App Server [cmdb_ci_cloud_appserver] table. |
| ECS Cluster ARN [ecs_cluster_arn] | The ARN of the Amazon ECS cluster associated with the compute environment. |
Data stored in CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the CMDB when running the Amazon AWS - Batch Compute Environment - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Object ID [object_id] | The ARN uniquely identifying the compute environment. |
| Name [name] | The name of the compute environment. |
| Install Status [install_status] | Install status of the resource. Default value is Installed. |
| Operational status [operational_status] | Operational status of the resource. Default value is Operational. |
| Type [type] | Type of resource. The value is set to AWS::Batch::ComputeEnvironment. |
CI relationships
The Amazon AWS - Batch Compute Environment - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern creates these relationships to support AWS Batch Compute Environment discovery.
