Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery
Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern-based discovery, available in the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, enables ServiceNow customers to discover and map Azure service endpoint policies within their cloud environments. This process populates both CMDB and non-CMDB tables with detailed Azure service endpoint policy data, supporting comprehensive cloud resource management and visibility.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern is disabled by default. From Visibility Content version 6.28.0 onward, enabling or disabling patterns does not count as customization, ensuring seamless updates and reset to the latest predefined versions after upgrades while retaining activation status.
- Azure Prerequisites: Customers must meet Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites and configure Azure service accounts appropriately, especially for Azure GovCloud (US) which requires using a datacenter URL.
- Data Population: The discovery pattern populates data in both non-CMDB tables (such as specific Azure configuration tables) and CMDB tables, allowing for detailed tracking of Azure service endpoint policies.
- Tag Collection: Tags associated with Azure resources are collected and stored in the Key Value [cmdbkeyvalue] table, facilitating enhanced resource categorization and filtering.
- CI Relationships: The pattern establishes important configuration item (CI) relationships, linking service endpoint policies to cloud resources, resource groups, subnets, and datacenters to provide a complete resource topology.
Data Captured
- Non-CMDB Tables: Include detailed Azure service endpoint policy data such as Object Id, Kind (SKU), Location, Resource Group, Subscription Id, Tenant Id, Provisioning State, and references to corresponding cloud resources.
- CMDB Tables: Store core resource details including Object ID, Name, Location, Install Status, Operational Status, and Resource Type, specifically for service endpoint policies under microsoft.network/serviceendpointpolicies.
- Tag Data: Tags are stored as key-value pairs in the CMDB key value table to help with resource identification and management.
Practical Considerations for ServiceNow Customers
- Ensure the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application is installed to access up-to-date Azure discovery capabilities.
- Activate the Azure Service Endpoint Policy pattern to begin discovery and mapping; understand that pattern activation aligns with upgrade practices to maintain consistency.
- Configure discovery schedules and Azure service accounts correctly, especially when working with Azure GovCloud environments.
- Leverage the populated CMDB and non-CMDB data, along with CI relationships and tag information, to enhance cloud resource management, visibility, and operational insights within ServiceNow.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Azure services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in Microsoft Azure Cloud discovery using patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering Azure GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an Azure service account. For more information, see Set up Azure service accounts.

Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB tables when running the Azure - Service Endpoint Policy - Extended Inventory(LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB Azure tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
