Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery
The Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to identify and map Azure Recovery Services Vault resources within their cloud environments. This discovery leverages the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application to populate detailed data into both CMDB and non-CMDB tables, enhancing visibility and management of Azure resources.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The Azure Recovery Services Vault pattern is disabled by default. From Visibility Content version 6.28.0 onward, enabling or disabling patterns is not considered a customization and patterns reset to the latest predefined version upon upgrade, retaining the last active state.
- Discovery Prerequisites: Customers must verify Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites and configure discovery schedules appropriately, including special setup for Azure GovCloud (US) using datacenter URLs for service accounts.
- Data Population: The discovery populates data in two primary locations:
- Non-CMDB Tables: The Azure - Recovery Services Vault - Extended Inventory(LP) pattern stores detailed resource data in non-CMDB Azure tables, accessible via the ServiceNow navigation.
- CMDB Tables: The same pattern also updates the CMDB Cloud Resource table with key resource attributes, including status and resource type.
- CI Relationships: The pattern establishes configuration item (CI) relationships linking Recovery Services Vaults to resource groups, datacenters, and cloud resources, which supports comprehensive service mapping.
- Tag Collection: Azure tags associated with resources are collected during discovery and stored in the Key Value table, facilitating enhanced tagging and categorization within the CMDB.
Key Outcomes
- Improved visibility into Azure Recovery Services Vault resources through automated discovery and accurate population of CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
- Enhanced service mapping by establishing explicit CI relationships, enabling better impact analysis and change management.
- Support for Azure GovCloud environments through specialized discovery configuration ensuring compliance with cloud-specific requirements.
- Efficient management of Azure resource metadata and tags, aiding in governance, reporting, and resource optimization.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Azure services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the Microsoft Azure discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in Microsoft Azure Cloud discovery using patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering Azure GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an Azure service account. For more information, see Set up Azure service accounts.

Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Azure - Recovery Services Vault - Extended Inventory(LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB Azure tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
