Amazon Redshift Serverless Snapshot pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Amazon Redshift Serverless Snapshot pattern-based discovery
The Amazon Redshift Serverless Snapshot pattern-based discovery in ServiceNow enables automated identification and mapping of Amazon Redshift Serverless snapshot resources within your AWS cloud environment. This functionality is delivered through the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, allowing you to populate both Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and non-CMDB tables with detailed snapshot data. This discovery pattern supports comprehensive visibility and management of these AWS resources, which is essential for accurate asset tracking and operational insights.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The Redshift Serverless Snapshot discovery pattern is disabled by default and must be enabled manually. From Visibility Content version 6.28.0 onward, enabling or disabling patterns is not considered a customization, and patterns reset to the latest predefined version after upgrades while retaining activation status.
- Prerequisites and Setup: Requires meeting AWS discovery prerequisites and ensuring the resource is not on the Resource Inclusion List to avoid duplicate discovery. Special configuration is needed for discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts using a datacenter URL.
- Data Storage: Discovered snapshot data is stored in:
- Non-CMDB Table:
cmdbawsredshiftserverlesssnapshotstores resource-specific fields such as ARN (object ID), name, status, and references to the CMDB's Cloud Resource table. - CMDB Table:
cmdbcicmpresourcerecords standard configuration item details including ARN, resource type (set as AWS::Redshift Serverless::Snapshot), install and operational status. - Configuration Item Relationships: The discovery pattern establishes relationships linking snapshots to their hosting AWS datacenter and references the relevant Cloud Resource CIs, facilitating comprehensive dependency mapping.
- Tag Collection: The pattern collects AWS tags associated with the snapshots and stores them in the
cmdbkeyvaluetable, enabling detailed metadata tracking and reporting.
Practical Benefits for ServiceNow Customers
- Enables automated, up-to-date discovery of Amazon Redshift Serverless snapshots, enhancing CMDB accuracy and completeness.
- Supports compliance and governance by integrating AWS GovCloud account discovery with appropriate configurations.
- Facilitates impact analysis and operational management through established CI relationships and status tracking.
- Improves asset management by capturing tags and metadata, allowing better filtering, reporting, and cost allocation.
- Ensures discovery patterns remain current and supported through seamless upgrades and pattern version management.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds AWS services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in AWS discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see AWS Resource Inventory discovery with Patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Amazon AWS - Redshift Serverless Snapshot - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB AWS tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Object Id [object_id] | The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) uniquely identifying the resource. |
| Name [name] | The user-defined name of the resource. |
| Status [status] | The current state or condition of the resource. |
| Configuration Item [configuration_item] | References the Cloud Resource [cmdb_ci_cmp_resource] table. |
