Start an exercise event

  • Create an exercise event to test your business continuity and recovery plans on a planned date and monitor the completion of the event tasks.

    Before you begin

    Role required: sn_bcm.planner, sn_bcm.program_manager

    Procedure

    1. Navigate to Business Continuity > Business Continuity Workspace.
    2. Click the Start an Exercise link in the Actions section of the workspace.
    3. On the modal form, fill in the fields.

      Field Description
      Short description Name of the exercise event.
      Assigned to Auto-populates the name of the user who created the exercise event. As a BCM program manager you can update the field.
      Exercise Method Method to implement the event. The methods can be Simulation, Tabletop, or Walkthrough.
      • Simulation: An environment that simulates an actual disaster with necessary equipment, supplies, and personnel.
      • Tabletop: An exercise done in a room with a team analyzing over the plan, looking for gaps.
      • Walkthrough: Each member of the team walks through a component of the plan in detail to identify weaknesses.
      • Functional: Option to include ad hoc tasks that are not part of a plan.
      Planned Start Planned start date of the exercise event.
      Description Detailed description of the exercise event.
    4. Click Submit.
      The exercise event is created and is in Pending state.
